A Botanical Excursion at Okefenokee Adventures!

Explore the diverse plant life of the Okefenokee with an experienced Naturalist aboard one of our 24 ft. Carolina skiffs. These flat bottomed boats have canopies overhead, bench seating with backs, and are comfortable, stable and safe!

The Okefenokee Swamp is home to over 600 species of plants. From lily-decked prairies, to jungles of titi and hurrahbush, to the Spanish moss-draped cypresses of a land before time, this wetland is home to an incredible diversity of flora. Skirts of green mosses cling to cypress trunks, bladderworts, pitcher plants, and sundews strain for the insect life they consume, and delicate orchids grace the floating peat batteries at different times throughout the year. Your naturalist will help you discover the amazing world of swamp life one plant at a time.

Come to the Okefenokee Adventures building before exploring other areas of the refuge. Before or after the tour, you may be able to see the film and exhibits at the Visitor Center, drive or bike (rentals are available) Swamp Island Drive – it’s a 7.5 mile long paved road accessing numerous walking trails, the historic Chesser Homestead and a 3/4 mile long boardwalk that leads to a 50′ observation tower, or grab a bite eat from our onsite Camp Cornelia Cafe. We serve sandwiches, salads, burgers, fries, philly cheese steaks and other selections of really good food.

Only certified service animals are permitted on our guided tours done on our 24’ skiffs. All other animals, regardless of size or how well trained, can not ride on any tour.
