Celebrate World Wetland’s Day by exploring the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge with your homeschool group!
During the day, your group will venture into the swamp on a guided 90-minute boat tour and participate in other activities in the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge such as a guided hike on the Chesser Island Boardwalk and an exploration of the Chesser Island Homestead. A hot dog lunch with chips and a brownie will be provided.
The 90 minute guided boat tour is an aquatic excursion with a naturalist who will help you look for wildlife and teach you about the swamp’s history and ecology. Be on the lookout for wading birds, cypress trees, and of course, American alligators.
The Chesser Island Homestead is a historic home that belonged to a local swamper family, the Chessers. The Chesser Island boardwalk is a 0.7 mile walk through the beautiful Chesser Prairie that ends at a 50 foot observation tower. The view is stunning!
