PostPigeonEDU – Bringing Oke to Classrooms

Education Director Katie Antczak Introduces Okefenokee Swamp Park
Want to bring Okefenokee Swamp Park to your school? No matter where your classroom is located, we want to bring our incredible Park and experts TO your students, virtually.Okefenokee Swamp Park offers a free, asynchronous distance learning program for K-12 classrooms. Through this offering, your students can connect with one of our expert educators via a personalized video message delivered to your inbox, answering their questions.
Whether you are a sixth grade Earth Sciences teacher eager to have your students ask questions about how erosion helped form our great landscapes, conducting a social studies unit exploring the U.S., or you’re looking for a way to increase student engagement and curiosity– our distance learning program is flexible and adaptable to your needs.
Program Overview
We work with the nonprofit Post Pigeon EDU to help facilitate this program offering. By signing up for their free program, in addition to receiving a personalized video from our Okefenokee education team, you will also receive a robust curriculum centered around K-8 learning standards.
- Get Curious: After signing up on the website, educators will receive a free educational curriculum. In this curriculum students will be introduced to public lands and other cherished outdoor spaces, the importance of environmental stewardship, in addition to learning about the flora, fauna, history, and geology of Okefenokee.
- Get Connected: Educators then engage their students’ curiosity through inquiry-centered activities, and get student questions answered by experts.
- Get Outside: After connecting with a team member at Okefenokee through a personalized video answering class questions, students are then asked to investigate how they themselves can become environmental stewards in their own community and are provided with resources to help them continue learning and exploring.
Note: After questions are submitted, classrooms can expect to receive their video from Okefenokee in 1-3 weeks after the submission date.
